Old Yeller is a 1957 American film about a family that must deal with their Dog’s death. Pal plays the title character, and he’s one of those classic dogs who finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time:
In this case, he’s captured by rural farmers who want to use him as bait for wolves so they can hunt them down and sell their pelts as fur coats.
The movie follows Michael (Kevin Bacon) as he moves from Texas to Louisiana after his father dies suddenly on an oil rig during an explosion.
He befriends an old stray dog named Yeller, who helps him adjust to his new life away from home while also helping him learn about friendship and bravery through a series of adventures together—and there are plenty more adventures ahead!
White Fang
White Fang is a movie based on the novel by Jack London, who also wrote Call of the Wild and Martin Eden. The story follows White Fang as he grows up in a family that mistreats him because they think he’s a wild dog.
When his father dies, he goes to live with another pack of wolves and finds love with another wolfdog named Buck.
White Fanged is an excellent family-friendly film about unconditional love; it has been recommended for ages 6+ years old due to its mild violence/sexuality (no nudity or swearing).
My Dog Skip
My Dog Skip is a movie based on the true story of Willie Morris, a boy who must do everything he can to keep his Dog alive during World War II.
The film was released in 2000 and has won several awards, including an Academy Award and two Golden Globes.
The story begins when Willie’s father dies during the war, and his mother decides she can’t take care of him anymore because he is sickly.
She puts him in an orphanage, where he meets a girl named Sally, who takes care of him until she grows up and leaves for college.
After that, Sally returns home but hasn’t forgotten about Willie; instead, she has become his foster mommy!
This is how they end up living together in Mississippi, where they have many adventures together (like swimming naked) while overcoming obstacles like getting lost trying to find their way back home after being separated on their journey across town.
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale
Hachi is a pet dog who waited for his owner to return home for 18 years.
He was born in Japan, but after his owner had a business trip abroad, he became famous as “the loyal dog of Japan.” The story of Hachi’s life has been made into a movie called Hachiko: A Dog’s Story.
This is a story about how the Dog waited for his owner every day at Shibuya Station in Tokyo until his owner did not return one day. But Hachi never gave up hope and kept waiting for him.
101 Dalmatians
101 Dalmatians is a 1961 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney and based on Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians.
The story takes place in England during World War II when an orphan named Pongo treats his pet dalmatian puppies like real children—disastrously.
When the dogs are kidnapped by Cruella De Vil (Jean Rogers), her henchmen Jasper (Bobby Taylor) and Horace (Jeffrey Scott) plan to sell them as fur coats; however, she wants them for herself while they’re still young enough to be cute.
To save them from being sold into slavery, Pongo tries to find someone to help him find his wayward puppies before it’s too late.
Beethoven
Beethoven is a 1994 family comedy film about a St. Bernard dog that inherits his late master’s estate and finds himself at the center of a battle between his owners and their friends, who want to tear down the house and build condominiums in its place.
The film stars Gary Oldman as Beethoven’s owner, who lives with his wife (Diane Keaton) and their three young children. They are forced to sell their house after they lose their jobs due to downsizing in corporate America.
After that, they discover that they may be able to buy back what was theirs if only they can raise enough money for renovations before someone else does.
So, without them being able to offer them an absurdly low-price tag which would allow them ownership but keep them from ever being able to afford anything related to any financial stability again!
This movie has everything: great performances from all involved parties; some hilarious moments throughout where you’ll laugh out loud because someone does something unexpected happen (like when Diane Keaton tries using her feminine charms on Gary Oldman).
There’s even some romance between those two characters too, but most importantly there isn’t anything sexual happening between anyone involved in this story at all–so parents who want nothing more than watching their kids grow up happily ever after should check this one out!
Turner & Hooch
Turner & Hooch is a 1989 American buddy cop comedy film directed by Roger Spottiswoode and starring Tom Hanks and Mare Winningham.
The film follows the adventures of an alcoholic detective assigned a police dog to help him solve crimes.
In addition to being one of my favorite movies from childhood, this movie also has some great moments where you can learn more about your Dog’s personality traits!
The Shaggy Dog
The Shaggy Dog is a remake of the 1959 comedy film of the same name. The film stars Tim Allen, Kristin Davis, and Michael J. Fox. It was released in 2006 and directed by Brian Robbins (Home Alone 3).
The film follows Wilby Daniels, who is transformed into a shaggy Old English Sheepdog named Rex who loves to play tricks on people with his friends by the power of an enchanted ring of the Borgias Zebedee (Zuko) and No-Face (Chowder).
The story begins when Wilby’s best friend George returns from summer camp with a new girlfriend named Lilly – but she doesn’t want any part of him!
When George tries to impress her by doing something stupid like stealing someone’s car or trying out for the wrestling team again, this proves dangerous and costly – especially when he gets knocked out cold at practice.
This leads him to need medical attention from Dr. Rogers (played by Phil Hartman), who works as an ER doctor nearby where he treats patients, including Mr. Babbitt’s wife and Mrs. Briggs’ family members Mr. Briggs.
Snow Dogs
Snow Dogs is a beautiful movie about a dentist from Miami who moves to Alaska and gets two sled dogs as pets. This film’s dog behavior experts were real sled dogs, not actors.
These dogs are called Sam and Shadow, and they teach their owners how to live in the snow alone! The movie also has some action scenes where you can see how well these trained animals can do their jobs when it comes down to it.
Max
Max is a film about a dog who loses his handler and goes on to save people’s lives. The story is based on the true life of U.S.
Marine Kyle Wincott, who was killed in action while serving overseas in Afghanistan.
After his death, Kyle’s service dog Max was too traumatized to remain in service, so he was recruited by another marine who had trained him before they went abroad together as partners during that period.
Max has since saved countless lives across America—from first responders like firefighters and police officers to everyday civilians.
This allows them access to dangerous situations where no one else could go without risking their safety or, even worse, getting harmed due to lack of training (or just plain bad luck).
Because of Winn-Dixie
Because of Winn-Dixie is a family movie about a girl named Opal who moves from Chicago to Florida. She discovers that her new town has no grocery store, so she and her mother open one.
The movie was based on the book by Kate DiCamillo, who also wrote The Tale of Despereaux and Gutsy Girl: A True Story of Adventure and Hope from the Heartland.
Because of Winn-Dixie stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Opal Beauman, Laura Dern as her mother Helen Beauman (real name Helen Gentry), and Jessica Biel as Pamela Shaw (real name Pamela Duncan).
The film was directed by Wayne Wang, who has worked on other movies like Eat Pray Love and Mulan, among others!
Isle of Dogs
This is the story of a young boy who befriends a dog in Japan. His name is Atari, and he lives with his brother and sister on an island quarantined from the rest of the world.
The dogs are infected with a virus that makes them sick and weak, so they have to wait for their cure while they’re stuck on this island together with Atari—who may or may not be able to help them get better!
Red Dog
Red Dog is a 2011 Australian film based on Red Dog, a novel by Louis de Bernieres. The film was directed by Kriv Stenders and was released on 19 August 2011.
The story follows an Aborigine man named Jacko (Jack Thompson), who is forced to leave his home when white settlers kill his family in the early 1900s.
He makes his way to Sydney, where he becomes part of an Aboriginal gang called The Dogs, led by Jimmie’ Red Dog’ Keating (Nelson).
Marley & Me
Marley & Me is a 2008 American comedy-drama film casting Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as a couple who must deal with the antics of their troublesome Dog Marley. The film is based on the memoir of the same name by John Grogan.
The story begins in 1987 when Jake (Wilson) and Amy Buckman (Aniston) move from New York City to suburban Connecticut, where they meet their new neighbors – Marley and his owners, John and Janet McEnroe (John Cusack, Elizabeth Perkins).
As they get to know each other better, Jake learns that he may not have been able to keep his family together if it weren’t for Marley’s constant presence.

The Plague Dogs (1982) is a novel by Richard Adams and the sequel to Watership Down. It tells the story of two dogs, Rowf and Snitter, who escape from a research laboratory and attempt to survive in the wild.
